A school that is a little different and gives that much more to its students.
Situated in the deep hinterland of Sundarbans, West Bengal, this is a primary school located in a small lovely village named Nafargunj.
A simple structure marks the school, with enough rooms to house classes Nursery to Class IV. In the front is a courtyard used by the children to play during break time. Also used for assembly and any outdoor functions like Flag hoisting ceremony or school programs. There is also an office and a staff room. A small staff of teachers and a caretaker comprise the team for the school. There are also present a couple of drivers who drive the school vans used to pick up and drop the children from their homes.
The transport is part of the school and the service is provided to the students.
The school provides a nutritious tiffin to the children. Also provided by the school to the children are all their school and study requirements, school syllabus books, stationery and any other relevant materials.

FOR FOREST STAFF- The objective of this program is to support the efforts of front line forest staff in protecting our wildlife and its habitat because we believe that a healthy body and proper medical support is an emergency need for our front line forest staff at their work, those who are protecting our valuable forest day & night. So in that connection regularly we organize proper Health check-ups, Blood pressure & Blood test and Eye check-up and along with distribution of prescribed medicine by our expert Doctors for front line field forest staff of different National Parks and Tiger Reserve.
FOR VILLAGERS- Most of the time villagers who live in & around forest areas suffered and sometimes died from disease due to lack of good Health care facilities nearby. In emergencies it becomes very hard for them to reach the nearest Hospitals due to the long distance, transportation, roads and many other challenges. So keeping this in mind, we organize the same Regular Health check-ups, Blood pressure & Blood test along with distribution of prescribed medicine by our expert Doctors Team in many backward villages of West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh forest areas.

Nothing can give results unless it is understood and accepted. Only when we understand issues and see the big picture of how things can be improved, that is when it is truly effective. This is the basis for Awareness campaigns, to help people understand how to improve their lives and live securely. These campaigns were regularly conducted in various highly sensitive areas where the local villagers would be living in close proximity to the forest where movement of wildlife was high.
Awareness campaigns were regularly conducted by Saving Tiger Society during programs when there would an occasion or a public celebration. During such a program, the audience would consist of the villagers, children and prominent members of the Panchayat. The inclusion of Awareness topics and it’s discussion created more of an impact to them as a community and how it affected them. The thoroughness, the detailed and in-depth information provided slowly brought about visible results. There was a positive outcome as the villagers realised and learnt how to live without conflict to the best of their ability.

Every year, Saving Tiger Society identifies well deserving people from villages who are most compromised, to distribute essential items that will help them in their time of need.
During certain seasons, areas in Sundarbans are highly susceptible to diseases like dengue, malaria due to mosquitoes. The NGO organises distribution of mosquito nets for the villagers to protect them and bring down the chances of disease.
Children are very important as they represent the future and we firmly believe in educating them as they will be the voices in the coming years. School kits, study material and stationery are regularly distributed to school children from needy homes so that they don’t miss out on their education.
In most rural areas, malnutrition in children is a common factor, unfortunately. The children don’t get proper nutrition from their usual diet. The NGO, organises distribution of nutritious food kits for school children and also children from villages who are deprived of good food. These food kits contain protein powders, eggs, rice and other dry foods to help the children get some nutrition.
In West Bengal, due to the location of Sundarbans, this area gets affected by severe weather regularly. The seasons are harsh, weather patterns are extreme.
Due to these factors, and also the circumstances of the people from those villages that get most affected, there is a need for clothes and blankets.
Saving Tiger Society conducts clothes distribution on occasions of natural disasters where people have lost their possessions. Clothes distribution is also done during the festival season where underprivileged people are given clothes.
During winter, the most deserving people are identified to receive blankets for the extreme cold climate.
