Sundarbans, due to its location, is susceptible to extreme weather conditions. Severe storms and cyclones are frequent occurrences in the area. Since 2020, these natural disasters have seen an increase and a few of them have created complete destruction during their onslaught.
Entire villages disappeared, land and fields destroyed, people left with nothing.
During these times, the NGO, Saving Tiger Society, distributes relief aid of all kinds as required by the situation and the people.
Dry food kits, sanitisation materials, tarpaulin sheets, disinfectants, masks, generic medication, clothes are some of the relief supplies distributed.
Community kitchens are run by the NGO, proving hot, cooked meals to everyone in need. These are run twice a day, lunch and dinner, as long as the situation requires it.
The pandemic Covid, that hit the world in 2020 created situations across the country that were disastrous, in circumstance and in the people. Loss of jobs, loss of income, loss of homes and displacement left people fighting to survive, to stay alive.
Saving Tiger Society, during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, have organised distribution of food kits to villages that have been the most affected. These food kits contained dry rations for a family. Rice, atta, potatoes, spices, salt, oil, soyabeans, and sanitizer, masks were part of the kits. These distributions were done periodically in various areas of Madhya Pradesh and in West Bengal.
