Conservation is a word that has a very broad meaning. We can get all formal and use heavy words to describe conservation but in doing that how many will actually understand the true meaning of what conservation is. So here we will give you an idea of what is conservation through the eyes of Saving Tiger Society and our supporters and helpers.
For us conservation is everything, it encompasses all aspects of our environment. All of us are inter connected on this earth, it’s a complete eco system and we are all linked, humans animals and our environment. If the forests and wildlife are gone, we humans don’t get the very air we breathe, we don’t get the benefit of weather systems that sustain the soil for our food, we don’t get the basic necessities that are required for a human to survive. We lose the balance of Nature and every living thing on this earth falls apart, it’s as simple as that.
Conservation needs to be done at ground level working with people in touch with the land to support and sustain the wildlife and preserve the forests. Its an effort to understand that our environment has provided us all the tools for a beautiful life where wildlife animals and humans can live in harmony without excessive destruction and complete extinction. All we need to do is be aware, be conscious and create a balance where we use what we need and allow the growth of nature in its own time. Its about creating awareness in people not to be threatened and kill predators just because they are perceived as killers. Its about understanding the plight or the need of why the animals are behaving in a pattern not usual to them.
If we have our homes and our extended habitat taken away from us and left in a strange barren place with no idea of where to get our food and water and where and how to live, how would we humans react?
It’s the same with the animals, we have encroached and taken away their homes and left them with no food or a safe place to stay. This is the crux of all issues and extensive work is needed at ground level to ensure we can conserve and protect all that is vital and precious to out environment and our survival.
Some of the numerous ways our organisation is using for conservation :
Creating awareness and education among the people linked closely with the forests and whose lives are connected directly with the risks of living in close proximity to wildlife. Making them understand the balance and importance of nature.
Conducting nature walks, workshops, offering hands on volunteering programs to help and educate urban people the rules and life of our environment. How everyone living in cities can also be a a very important part of preserving and conserving wildlife and sustaining our forests.
Rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife
Veterinary services for wildlife where we treat the animals and release them back into their natural habitat
Create alternate sustainable income opportunities for the people whose lives are at risk everyday trying to earn a living using the bounty from within the forests.
Prevention of poaching with patrol squads and a network of shared information at ground level
Supporting the forest staff, guards, guides with proper training, adequate equipment and gear for their help in protecting our wildlife.
